Mark Agius was educated at St. Aloysious College where he was encouraged to take up music by the director of the college orchestra, Rev. Anthony Caruana S.J.. Subsequently, he took up the study of percussion and later music theory with Ms.Marthese Busuttil Cassar. He furthered his studies in harmony and counterpoint and attained his B.Mus.LSM, with honours, under Ms.Rita Psaila, with whom he is currently working for his Fellowship diploma.

He graduated from the University of Malta with a Bachelor's Degree in Education and for a number of years was a teacher of English and Music at Umberto Calosso Boys' Trade School, where he set up the U.C.Concert Band. The band attained a high standard of performance and was often invited to perform at national events, besides it's regular visits to institutes and old people's homes. It was also the first school band to travel abroad on concert tour.

Since 1999, Mro. Agius has been working as teacher of music in special schools, exploiting the therapeutic elements of music as a means of reaching out to students with special needs. In 2003, he was commisioned to write a passion musical drama on behalf of the Special Schools Network as its project for the European Year for Persons with Disability. The resultant work, Ghalik, for two choirs, soloists and orchestra was performed under his musical direction at the Catholic Institute Theatre, Floriana, with the participation of a cast of over a hundred and forty students with special needs, under the artistic direction of Mr. Anthony Galea. The performance, under the patronage of H.E. Dr.Guido DeMarco, President of Malta, recieved an eight-minute standing ovation.

In November 2005, the Guardian Angel School percussion band, Noti Ferrieha, under the direction of Mro. Agius recieved a Special Certificate of Achievement from the London Society of Music, in recognition of the high standard of performance attained, following a performance to which representatives of the London Society had been invited. This was the first time the London Society had ever given such an award and Guardian Angel School was the first local school to have ever recieved such recognition.

In July 2007, the two percussion bands from Dun Manwel Attard School and Guardian Angel School, to a total of over one hundred and thirty musicians,  were brought together under his direction for a performance before the new archbishop of Malta, H.E. Mons. Paul Cremona OP.

Between 1988 and 1994, Mro.Agius was choir master to the St.Cecilia Choir of Mosta. In 1989 he set up the Outreach Youth Choir and Orchestra, which he conducted up to 1999. Between 1998 and 2003 he was coordinator of the worship ministry of the Bread of Life Covenant Community. In 2004 he co-founded the Academy of Praise and Worship. He sits on the board of directors as Director of Music.

Since 2003, he has been responsible for the ceremony of the Solemn Investiture of the Knights Hospitallers of the Sovereign Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, Knights of Malta.  In October 2007 he was awarded a certificate of merit for outstanding services to the order.

His works for piano have been performed locally in concert by international Bulgarian pianist, Ms.Ivelina Ivantcheva. Other works for harp, string quartet and orchestra and choir have also been performed by local artists.

He is a member of the Translations Board of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, and since 1996, a member of the Bread of Life Covenant Community.

He is a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and the Maltese Magicians' Society, having worked as a part-time professional magician between 1988 and 2005, when other commitments had to take priority.
