The Academy of Praise and Worship was set up in February 2004 as an initiative of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal -
Malta. What began as the vision of a handful of persons is today a very relevant project which is part of the Diocesan Pastoral
Plan.
The Academy is in effect a school of music with a difference. It caters for persons within the Communion of
Catholic Charismatic Groups and Communities who are involved in the animation of worship, be they singers, musicians
or worship leaders. The idea behind the project is, in very simple terms, that God deserves the best. In these regards,
members of the Academy meet regularly to pray together, study new songs and to improve on musical techniques, be they instrumental
or vocal. Skills learned and honed are then used in the respective groups to enhance the quality of worship and liturgy.

Specialized courses in voice, guitar, keyboard and percussion are also held for those who would
like to attain greater proficiency in their field. These courses follow a prospectus which covers both music technique
and the theology of worship. It is part of the vision of the Academy that these courses will eventually be offerd to
interested persons, outside the Communion, who are invoved in the animation of worship or liturgy in other local groups and
parishes.
The Academy is often called upon to participate in national and ecumenical activities, apart from regularly
giving service at national meetings of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal. The concerts of contemporary Christian music
held by the Academy worship choir and band have also become bookmarked events in the calendar of those who believe that God
deserves the highest praise.
